The Holy Spirit, Our Guide
Bible Readings
- John 16:12-15 - I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
- John 14:16 - And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
The Holy Spirit's guidance is always consistent with God's Word.
John 16:12-15
All of God's children are on a journey. As we progress on life's path, we are heading towards our eternal home, and along this way, we encounter many choices. Crossroads can make us ponder, confuse us, and sometimes even discourage us. In such moments, how do we know which path to choose?
Jesus promised us He would give an internal and ever-present Guide (John 14:16). From the moment of salvation, the Holy Spirit dwells in everyone who trusts the Savior, and promises to guide believers into all truth (16:13). We have no reason to fear, for He will lead us on the right path. However, while the Holy Spirit's guidance is always right, sometimes our reception of it may not be clear. If, in such cases, we are inclined to overlook sin in some area of our lives, we should not expect His guidance in another area.
Sin affects our perception of the Lord's clear direction, just as a magnet affects a compass needle. It leads us astray, moving us away from the clear path God has planned, just as a magnetic field diverts the needle from true north.
When making a difficult decision, ask yourself these questions: Will Christ be glorified in this choice? Or will this draw me closer to the Lord? If the answer is 'no,' do not choose that path; for the Holy Spirit is not guiding you there. His guidance is always consistent with the Scriptures and fulfills God's perfect plan.
🤔 Reflection
When making a difficult decision, ask yourself these questions: Will Christ be glorified in this choice? Will this draw me closer to the Lord?
