Doing God's Work God's Way
Bible Readings
- Zechariah 4:1-7 - And the angel that talked with me came again, and waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep, And said unto me, What seest thou? And I said, I have looked, and behold a candlestick all of gold, with a bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are upon the top thereof: And two olive trees by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof. So I answered and spake to the angel that talked with me, saying, What are these, my lord? Then the angel that talked with me answered and said unto me, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord. Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts. Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.
- Galatians 5:22-23 - But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Every part of a believer's life should be characterized by continuous reliance on the Holy Spirit.
It's easy to think that life should be divided into two separate parts: the secular, which appears separate from the Lord, and the spiritual. But we are children of God, so every aspect of life should be an expression of this divine connection. Our culture wants us to believe that we can achieve much without God. People will point to our human strengths like education or skills and assure us that we have everything we need for success. This implies that we don't need God. Satan relies on this tactic because he always wants to draw us away from trusting the Lord. The Bible tells us something different. Doing God's work God's way means that instead of relying on ourselves, we must rely on His Spirit. When we lean on the Spirit's power and wisdom... Be absolutely sure that without God's active involvement, we will fail. Try only to please God and do not compromise. Eagerly await the work of the Holy Spirit. Spend more time giving Him thanks and praise. Demonstrate joy, which is a fruit of the Spirit. The life of God's children should be characterized by continuous reliance on the Holy Spirit, a relationship that changes everything.
🤔 Reflection
In what areas of your life do you need to rely more on the guidance of the Holy Spirit instead of your own strength?
