The Power of Love
Bible Readings
- 1 John 4:10 - Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
There are four types of love in Greek: eros (romantic), philia (friendship), storge (familial), and agape (unconditional, sacrificial love). Our Heavenly Father's care for us is precisely agape love - such a powerful love that He drew us close to Himself through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross.
The parable of the "Lost Son" (Luke 15:11-32) illustrates the power of this love through three important steps: - Responding to difficulties with wisdom: The son broke his father's heart by asking for his inheritance prematurely. However, the father did not allow his resentment to completely sever the relationship. - Sacrificing without complaint: Although he knew his son was going down the wrong path, the father silently granted his wish. He chose to forego his rights to preserve the relationship. - Waiting patiently: Deep love sometimes requires letting go. The father waited without losing hope for the day his son would realize the emptiness of sin and return.
Prayer: Lord, teach me through the power of the Holy Spirit to be calm, patient, and without complaint towards others. Just as You loved me, help me to love those around me with a sacrificial love. Amen.

How do you live out agape love in your life, and in what practical ways can you demonstrate this love to others?
