- 1 John 1:8–10 - If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
- Matthew 7:13 - Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
- Psalm 66:18 - If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:
- Hebrews 13:5 - Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
Through humble confession, barriers that hinder us from hearing Divine guidance are removed. Leaving the worldly path, believers choose the narrow way. However, we are not called to walk this path blindly. The Holy Spirit is our guide. Nevertheless, sometimes it can be difficult to discern His voice. Seeking God's guidance is a process, and this process begins with cleansing. This means we must first look at ourselves. We can pray like this: “Father, is there anything in my life that hinders me from understanding Your voice?” Sin complicates this process — it darkens our mind and causes us to feel the work of the Holy Spirit more weakly. Scripture teaches that when we confess our sins, God cleanses us from all unrighteousness. At the same time, there is a warning: if a person does not want to forsake wrong behavior, the Lord will not heed their prayer. But even if we stumble, He never leaves those who call Him Father. Cleansing is an integral part of the process of receiving God's guidance. The Holy Spirit shows us sin and teaches us how to deal with it. Therefore, on the path to receiving His clear direction, we can often return to this first step — cleansing. As a result, we experience continuous spiritual growth and renewal.
