- 1 Samuel 16:6-13 - And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the Lord's anointed is before him. But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart. Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse, The Lord hath not chosen these. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither. And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the Lord said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he. Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.
- Luke 22:42 - Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
What are you living for every day? Goals built on the idea of “getting ahead” or achieving success often end in disappointment. Perhaps you have already reached certain targets — saved money for the future or advanced in your career. You may even be involved in charity, volunteering, and attending church, yet you still feel a void inside.
If this is the case, you need to hear the truth: God has given each of us life with a specific purpose — to serve Him. A person cannot find inner peace without understanding this truth. Society tells us that pleasure, prosperity, and fame will make us happy. But living for oneself ultimately leaves a person empty.
Who we become in this life is formed day by day. Remember David: he was anointed as king, but he did not hold that position for a long time. He grew for many years while serving God's purpose in places that seemed invisible and insignificant. His life shows that the truest path for a person is to discover God's plan for them.
Our Heavenly Father's purpose for us stems from His perfect love. We cannot know exactly what He has prepared, but we can trust His plan. Surrender yourself to the Lord and say: “Father, if Thou be willing, remove this cup from Me: nevertheless not My will, but Thine, be done.”
