- Luke 10:42 - But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
When Jesus came to the house of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus, Mary focused her attention on Him. Martha, however, was busy with preparations and was anxious because her sister was not helping. From a human perspective, Martha might have seemed right. But Jesus directed her attention to what was more important—spending time with Him. This story teaches us that sometimes, in order to commune with the Lord, we must leave some tasks unfinished. Our greatest need is to be with Him. If we do not make this a priority in our lives, we may miss out on the important things God wants to teach us. The Lord invites us, too, to set aside temporary things and choose the one thing that is necessary.
