- 2 Corinthians 2:14-17 - Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place. For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish: To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things? For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.
- Psalm 66:5 - Come and see the works of God: he is terrible in his doing toward the children of men.
We all feel inadequate from time to time. In today’s passage, Paul asks a question familiar to many: "And who is sufficient for these things?" (2 Corinthians 2:16). Even this great apostle knew what it was like to feel inadequate. Have you ever felt that God was calling you to serve Him in a way that pushed you out of your comfort zone? Perhaps you hesitated because you felt you weren't up to the task. If so, you may have missed the opportunity to see the Lord work powerfully through your weakness. Feeling inadequate is not a sin. It is simply an honest acknowledgement of our limitations. However, using it as an excuse to avoid obedience is a different matter. When the Lord calls you to a work that exceeds your abilities, you face a choice: will you focus on Christ and move forward in faith, or will you focus on yourself and retreat in defeat? God will never call you to a task without giving you the strength to carry it out. He does not require perfection; He seeks obedience. Every step taken in faith is a victory. Then you will better understand the truth spoken by the psalmist: "Come and see the works of God: he is terrible in his doing toward the children of men" (Psalm 66:5).
Reflection
In what task or calling do you feel inadequate, and how can you rely on God's strength today?
