- Hebrews 4:12 - For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
- Romans 8:29 - For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Spiritual discernment is the ability to look at life through God's perspective. One of the primary ways this perspective is formed is through the Holy Scripture. The Bible is the Word through which God reliably reveals Himself to us. In its pages, we learn who God is, how He acts, and how He interacts with people. Although these events took place thousands of years ago, the truths they teach remain valid for our lives today.
The Word of God is alive and powerful. It is not just words read on a page. The Holy Spirit uses the Word to illuminate our hearts, revealing our thoughts and intentions. When we approach the Holy Scripture with an open heart, God sometimes shows us areas we cannot see ourselves—hidden intentions, our weaknesses, and areas where we need to grow spiritually.
Spiritual discernment involves seeing not only our circumstances but also ourselves through God's eyes. As we read God's Word regularly, we better understand who we are and what kind of person God is calling us to be.
If you have been neglecting deep study of the Scriptures lately, start again. When God shows something that needs to change in our lives, His goal is not to condemn us but to restore us. He wants to make us healthier, freer, and more like Christ. Such understanding is a precious gift from God.
