Bible Readings
- Matthew 5:13 - Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
- Matthew 5:14 - Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
- Matthew 5:15 - Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
- Matthew 5:16 - Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
- Ephesians 2:10 - For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Believers are called to be the light of God in the world.
Ask yourself this question: When it comes to my faith, what kind of light am I? Is your light a dim flicker that others can only see if they really look? Or is it a bright light that illuminates everything when you enter a room? Remember that even a small flame, when it is strong, brings light into an entire room. So, as Christians, we must "shine brightly" no matter where we are.
Short-sightedness can dim our shine, and this can cause us to miss out on blessings. We may think that we need to clearly see what the Lord plans to do before we decide to cooperate with Him. But we are called to be faithful ambassadors who trust in the work of His Spirit in people's hearts.
As believers, we are all special — God's "workmanship" is the term used in Ephesians 2:10. We are members of His family, indwelt by the Holy Spirit; His light is the light within us. Thus, our lives have potential beyond any imagination. We have no idea how many amazing things the Lord can do simply through our willingness to shine the light of His powerful love.
If you pray, "Father, do with my life what you want," you can be assured that He will show us the next step. God is ready and willing to move in the life of anyone who chooses to be accessible to Him.
