God's Living Word
Bible Readings
- James 1:22 - But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
- James 1:23 - For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
- James 1:24 - For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
One of the biggest misconceptions about the Bible is that it is just another book.
Indeed, many Christians view the Bible as merely a collection of ancient letters and books that give us information about God and religious matters.
While the Bible is certainly a collection of ancient documents, it holds much more significance. It is the Word of God. The Bible is God-breathed, meaning He spoke through people to create these letters and books.
Furthermore, God’s Word is living and active. The Holy Spirit still uses the Bible to speak to us today. This is what sets the Bible apart from other books.
James 1:22-24 tells us that the power of the Bible lies not just in hearing it, but in living it out.
The Bible can radically change the way we live, but first, we must make the effort to read it and then do what it says.
James says that anyone who reads the Bible and does not follow God’s way is only deceiving themselves. We think we are following God by simply reading His Word, but God wants us to live out the truths of Scripture in our personal lives.
This is following God’s way, not your own.
Take a moment to consider a few ways you can begin living out the truths of Scripture. In prayer, ask God to reveal an area of your life that needs to be transformed by His Word. Then, resolve to obey Him not only by listening to His Word but by doing what He says.
🤔 Reflection
What specific area of your life does God's Word highlight for change today, and how will you commit to being a 'doer' of His Word in that area?
