Faithfulness and Respect
Bible Readings
- Romans 12:10 - Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;
You were created for community. God created us with the intention of placing us in a loving family. Today, we call this family the Church.
God's original intention was for us to live in a family made up of other believers. He did not want us to live in isolation or separate from others. Life is not meant to be lived in solitude.
Whatever our family experience, God wants His family to be full of love and care. These are the very qualities of God's family that Paul wrote about in Romans chapter 12.
He says that we must be faithful to one another in love. This means that we should walk together through the different seasons of life. We should not abandon people when difficulties come.
Paul also encourages us to show respect to others. Instead of promoting ourselves, let us uplift and encourage one another. Let us seek the good of others first, not our own.
Faithfulness and respect are just two sides of true love. Jesus said that the world would know us as His disciples by our love for one another. Therefore, we must be people who love not just for show, but from the heart. Our spiritual family is the first place where we learn true respect and love. Instead of exalting ourselves, let our goal be to show respect to the people around us.
If we do not learn to love those who follow Jesus, we will not know how to love those who do not.
🤔 Reflection
How did you show love and respect to the people in your life last week? What are two or three specific actions you can take to continue showing love?
