Worshiping a Good God
Bible Readings
- Isaiah 25:1 - O LORD, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.
Worshiping God is one of the most central and important aspects of the Christian life. Throughout Scripture, God's people actively glorify Him. The Bible is full of hymns and verses dedicated to God.
We often think of worship as only singing hymns. But worship is much broader than that. If we limit worship to singing alone, we miss a significant part of the Christian life.
According to Scripture, worship is not just singing hymns. It is rightly thinking about who God is and what He does, and extolling Him. We worship when we acknowledge God as our Great Father, when we stand in awe of His character and sovereignty.
This means we can worship God at any moment of the day. When we give thanks for His goodness — this is worship. When we are amazed by His beauty — this is worship. Even when we set ourselves apart from food and comforts to seek Him more deeply, turning our hearts towards Him, this also becomes an expression of worship before Him.
In Isaiah 25:1, the prophet Isaiah extols God in this way. He gives thanks for who God is, for being a God who is near. He worships God for His faithfulness and glorifies Him for all the wonderful things He has done.
Isaiah might not have been singing at that moment, but his words and actions show that he was worshiping God for who He is and what He does. He was awestruck by God's greatness.
Take a moment today to think about God. Reflect on His character: He is good, faithful, and loving. Remember how He has blessed you. Stand quietly before Him for a few minutes and simply worship Him.
🤔 Reflection
How can you intentionally make worship a broader part of your day today, beyond just singing, by reflecting on God's character and works?
