God's Sovereignty Over Delays
Bible Readings
- Proverbs 16:9 - A man's heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps.
- Psalm 27:14 - Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.
No one likes to wait. But have you ever thought about why? Perhaps it's because delays show us that not everything is within our control. There's always another reason or circumstance that changes our plans. Sometimes it's due to simple things — like everyday delays such as traffic or a long queue. But in reality, the Lord is sovereign over all these delays. He is the Owner of everything in heaven and on earth, and our time is also in His hands.
This means that in every moment of delay, we are, in a way, waiting for God. The phrase "wait on the Lord" is sometimes understood only as waiting for a prayer answer or God's direction. But in fact, it also encompasses the small inconveniences and delays in our daily lives.
Learning to wait is crucial in the Christian life. Otherwise, it would be difficult to live in obedience to God, build a vibrant prayer life, and find comfort in His sovereignty. We must learn to trust His rule in everything.
The next time you have to wait, remember that it is no surprise to God. He can use those moments to increase our patience and strengthen our faith.
