What does it mean to be saved?
Bible Readings
- Psalms 25:12–18 - What man is he that feareth the LORD? him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose. His soul shall dwell at ease; and his seed shall inherit the earth. The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant. Mine eyes are ever toward the LORD; for he shall pluck my feet out of the net. Turn thee unto me, and have mercy upon me; for I am desolate and afflicted. The troubles of my heart are enlarged: O bring thou me out of my distresses. Look upon mine affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sins.
- Ephesians 2:8–9 - For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
- Mark 10:45 - For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
How can a person be righteous in the eyes of God? The path to salvation does not begin with a decision to live a better life or by abandoning bad habits. On the contrary, it begins with the realization that we cannot be righteous through our own strength. We cannot save ourselves — that is why we must trust in what Jesus did for us on the cross.
The Holy Scripture clearly teaches that salvation is not given by works, but only by the grace of God (Ephesians 2:8–9). The moment a person believes in Jesus, God forgives them, declares them righteous, and welcomes them into His family. This is entirely a gift from God.
Good deeds and a changed life are not the cause of salvation, but its result. A believing person may grow and change spiritually over time, but these changes are not a condition for salvation.
Jesus gave His life to save many (Mark 10:45). This shows His great love for people. Whoever trusts in Him has eternal life.
Whatever you have done, you can be forgiven. Just trust in Jesus — and God will give you eternal life. According to His promise, everyone who believes in Him is with Him forever.
🤔 Reflection
Do you accept that you cannot be saved by your own deeds, or are you still trying to please God through your own efforts?
