- Matthew 14:29-30 - And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
- Isaiah 64:4 - For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.
Faith is not a feeling; it is a choice to trust God regardless of what we see. God wants to do greater things in the lives of believers and through their testimony than people can imagine. We know He can do great things, but sometimes we don't fully believe it will happen in our lives. Living between faith and doubt is exhausting. If we want our fears to subside, we must choose to act out of obedience, not out of our feelings. Peter walked on water because he trusted Jesus, not logic. Our faith, too, is strengthened only when we choose to rely on God. The second step a believer must take is to focus their attention on God. Otherwise, we will view our situation only through our limited perspective. Peter stayed on top of the water as long as he kept his eyes on Jesus. But when he looked at the wind and the waves, he began to sink. One of the best ways to keep our focus on the Lord is to fill our minds with the Word of God. Scripture reminds us of God's faithfulness and helps us overcome anxiety when it is easy to forget the truth. Choose to believe that the Lord is working for your good and fix your eyes on Him. He will help you as He promised and will honor your firm faith.
