- John 14:6 - Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
- Romans 3:23 - For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Jesus is the bridge built over the chasm between us and God, which we cannot cross by our own strength.
In verse 6 of today's reading, Jesus says, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." What a powerful and profound statement!
When Jesus calls Himself "the way," many imagine a path leading in one direction—meaning there are many roads, but only one leads to the Father. This is true, but there is another description that better illustrates our situation.
Think of Jesus not just as a path, but as a bridge. The Apostle Paul writes in Romans 3:23: "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." There is a great chasm between us and God that we cannot cross on our own. No matter how hard a person tries, they cannot bridge this distance.
There is only one way to cross this chasm—a bridge. Jesus Christ is that bridge for us. By standing between us and God, He opened the way that leads us to the Heavenly Father.
Reflect on this truth today. Without God's help, we could never approach Him by our own works. But through Jesus Christ, the way has been opened. This is precisely where the power and significance of the Cross lie.
Reflection
What chasms in your life do you feel you need to cross, and how can you rely on Jesus, the bridge, to help you reach the Father?
