- Hebrews 3:7-11 - Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice, Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness: When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years. Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways. So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)
- Numbers 14:33-36 - And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness. After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise. I the Lord have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die. And the men, which Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander upon the land
The people of Israel who came out of Egypt saw the power of God with their own eyes — the plagues, the parting of the sea, the pillar of cloud and fire. Yet, when it was time to enter the Promised Land, they did not believe God's promise that He would give them victory over the inhabitants of Canaan. Although Joshua and Caleb urged them to believe, the people rebelled and found excuses for their unbelief. The Lord's response was severe: they wandered in the wilderness for forty years, and that generation did not enter the Promised Land. This event is such an important lesson that the Holy Spirit reminds us of it in the New Testament. God wants His children not to repeat the same mistake. How does a heart become hardened? It usually happens gradually. A person hears the Word of God but does not fully accept it. Then, they try to manage their life independently of God. Over time, they silence the voice of their conscience, beginning to justify choices that do not align with Scripture. As a result, the heart can become so hardened that it loses sensitivity to the warnings of the Holy Spirit. If you feel such hardness in your heart, there is hope. Draw near to the Lord, confess your unbelief, and ask Him to make your heart open to His will once again. God does not abandon His children, and His grace always provides a way back.

What small acts of disobedience do you see in your life that are hindering the Holy Spirit's touch or hardening your heart?
