- Hebrews 11:8 - By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
God sometimes allows trials in our lives so that we may know Him, His purposes, and His promises more deeply. These trials are not intended to earn our salvation, but to strengthen our faith and develop our relationship with Christ.
When Abraham was commanded to sacrifice his son Isaac, he could have thought:
* It's illogical: "I love my son. How can God ask for this?" * It's mistimed: "But God promised that the lineage would continue through Isaac." * It's too heavy: "This burden is too difficult for me."
But Abraham did not trust his own thoughts; he trusted in God's reliable character. He knew that God is faithful to His promises.
We do not earn God's love and acceptance through our obedience. We are already accepted in Christ. However, obedience and trust lead us into a closer relationship with God, spiritual maturity, and the joy of seeing His work in our lives.
God never makes a mistake. Even when we do not immediately understand His plan, we can trust Him.
Just as God provided a ram for sacrifice in place of Isaac, God will show His provision when we remain faithful to Him during trials.
Prayer: Lord, teach me to trust in Your character during difficult times. Help me to rely not on my own understanding, but on Your promises. Amen.
