- Proverbs 2:6 - For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
- 1 Corinthians 2:12-13 - Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
There are moments in life when we feel confused, indecisive, or at a standstill. In such times, the gift of spiritual discernment is invaluable. Looking at events through God’s perspective helps us make the right decisions. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we can more clearly discern right from wrong, good from the best, and truth from falsehood.
Instead of relying solely on what we see or on human logic, we can ask the Holy Spirit to teach us to look at every situation as God does. This does not mean abandoning common sense or wise advice. On the contrary, it means taking God’s perspective into account when making decisions.
The Heavenly Father gives every believer the opportunity to grow in the gift of spiritual discernment. However, many believers do not take full advantage of this. They rely only on their own experience and knowledge, missing out on the deeper wisdom that God wants to provide. Studying the Holy Scriptures, praying, and maintaining a close relationship with God help develop this ability.
Spiritual discernment begins with a humble heart ready to learn. If you are in the habit of making decisions based primarily on your own wisdom, confess this before God. Then, ask Him to show you His perspective. As you learn to trust Him in your decisions, your spiritual discernment will also grow.
