Assurance of Our Salvation

Salvation is not a reward to be earned, but a gift from God received through faith. God has given us Scripture so that we might know Him and live in a way that honors Him. He wants us to understand His truths and apply them to our lives. God calls us to trust Him completely. However, many believers begin to doubt their salvation as soon as they sin. Regret and shame whisper: 'How could I be saved? If I were truly saved, I wouldn't have done that.' Thus, after every failure, the person begins to question their salvation again and fails to find rest in the work that Christ has already completed on the cross. But God wants us to rely on His Word, not our feelings. When our feelings contradict Scripture, the truth does not change. In today's verse, John clearly writes: 'These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life' (1 John 5:13). Notice, he does not say: 'hope' or 'assume'. He says: 'know'. Eternal life is a gift from God that we receive the moment we believe. It is not something that must be earned or maintained every day. For Jesus said: 'him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out... of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing' (John 6:37-40). If you have sinned, confess it to God, know that He is your forgiving Father, and restore your relationship with Him (1 John 1:9). But remember that your salvation is based on the finished work of Christ. Surrender your regret and shame to Him, and find rest in the assurance that His Word provides.
