Our Boundless God

Bible Readings
  • John 4:24 - God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
  • Exodus 32:4 - And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

Knowing that God is eternal, always with us, and that His love for you will never end can provide great comfort. Jesus said to the Samaritan woman: “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24). This was a quiet yet significant moment where deep truths about the nature of God were revealed to an unexpected listener. The woman had come to the well simply to draw water, but there she encountered the One who revealed the nature of the Father to her—Jesus. The fact that God is Spirit means that He is not limited by time or space. He is with every believer in every moment of our lives. When we feel His presence while worshipping together in church or praying alone at home, it is the communion of the Spirit of God with our spirit. Our Heavenly Father is too great to be limited by physical boundaries. The Israelites making a golden calf to worship (Exodus 32:4) showed that they did not understand or appreciate His infinite essence. Idolatry is a human attempt to place limited things that suit one's own understanding and desires above the infinite God. The Father is infinite in His being, and therefore all His attributes are infinite. His love has no limit, and His mercy has no end. We cannot commit a sin so great, nor fall so deep, that His grace—extended in love—remains beyond our reach. Let the knowledge of this comfort you: wherever you go and whatever you experience, your Heavenly Father is with you.
