Obedience to God often clashes with logic. One of the most difficult tests of obedience recorded in the Holy Scriptures came upon Abraham: God asked him to sacrifice his son. This command was a source of great confusion and deep pain for Abraham. Nevertheless, he was ready to obey. Abraham's response gives us important lessons about trusting our heavenly Father. Obedience often clashes with logic. God had first promised Abraham that his descendants would be as numerous as the stars. Now He was asking for Isaac, the bearer of this promise, to be sacrificed. This command was incomprehensible according to human logic. But Abraham trusted that God would remain faithful to His word. Obedience means leaving the results to God. Abraham's words and actions show his deep faith in God's sovereignty. As he went with Isaac to Mount Moriah, he said to his servants: "I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you." He did not say, "I will return," but rather expressed his hope that both would return. Abraham was confident that God would, in some way, bring his son back to fulfill His promise. A person who trusts in the Lord will see His faithfulness in their life.
