Rekindling Our Spiritual Fire
Bible Readings
- Luke 10:26-28 - He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.
- Matthew 5:16 - Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Our spiritual state is important — both for us and for everyone in our sphere of influence.
The Lord created us to live with passion for Him. This is vital not only for the joy we will experience in our relationship with the Creator but also for those around us. Just as the warmth and beauty of a fire in a hearth draw people to it, God uses our spiritual passion to attract others to Himself (Matthew 5:16).
Therefore, we must be careful not to let our spiritual fire go out. Thankfully, the Holy Spirit living within us warns believers who start to go in the wrong direction. If you feel this happening, you can take several steps to realign with Him.
First, evaluate your spiritual condition — ask God if your fire has turned to embers. Second, confess and repent of any distance you have allowed to come between you and your heavenly Father. Third, refocus your attention on Jesus and reflect on how He taught His followers to live. Spend quality time in the Scriptures every day, asking the Lord to speak to you through His Word. Cry out from your heart for God's guidance and wisdom. Fourth, trust the Holy Spirit to restore you to a close and vibrant relationship with the Father. And finally, serve God by worshiping Him and loving others.
If your spiritual passion has diminished, ask the Lord to renew it. Living intimately with Him is fully worth every effort made.
