Understanding God's Peace
Bible Readings
- Colossians 3:15-17 - And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
If you desire God's peace, spend time in His Word and align your choices with His will.
Many Christians believe that a feeling of peace is a sign of following God's will. However, sometimes peace can actually stem from our satisfaction with the choice we've made. How can we discern the difference?
Today's passage speaks of allowing “the peace of Christ to rule in your hearts” (verse 15). This kind of peace comes from Jesus and is the result of His work on the cross — He is the source of our true peace because He reconciled us to God. The word “peace” means to be connected or in touch with one another in harmony and unity. God's peace often accompanies our hearts when we make decisions consistent with the Bible, but our feelings alone do not determine God's will. The only way to determine it is to compare your thoughts and choices with His Word. Do you think like Him? Are you making your decision using biblical principles, or are you relying solely on your own human understanding?
We would like to find answers quickly, but God gradually shapes us day by day as we read His Word and absorb His truths into our minds.
Building a foundation on God's truth requires time and consistency. When you make decisions based on His Word, you can step out in faith, trusting in the Lord's guidance. Then you will experience a sense of unity with the Lord and see His peace guarding your heart.
🤔 Reflection
How do you discern the difference between true peace and satisfaction that comes from your own human desires? What choices will you align with God's Word today?
