God's Empowering Presence
Bible Readings
- Psalms 42:1-5 - As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God? My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God? When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday. Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.
- Psalms 62:1 - Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation.
God desires a close relationship with each of us. That is why He created humanity with a longing for His presence. Only God can fill this void, but people often try to fill this need with various relationships and activities. However, trying to fill this void with anything other than the Lord is, at best, a short-term solution and ultimately leaves a person unsatisfied.
The Bible calls us to stop seeking satisfaction in what the world offers and to turn our attention to Jesus Christ (Psalm 62:1). But many people choose other things instead of His presence. Friends, hobbies, and even a very busy lifestyle can be good—if we prioritize the time we spend in quiet before God. But often, when the joy provided by an activity ends, instead of asking what our heart truly needs, we begin to look for a new preoccupation or a new relationship.
Nothing apart from the Lord can fill the place God has reserved for Himself in our lives. Our Father's empowering presence is the only true answer. The Holy Spirit already lives within believers. All we need to do is quiet ourselves before God—and He will reveal Himself to us.
🤔 Reflection
What things in your life are you trying to fill voids with, apart from God? How can you turn your attention to God's presence to find true satisfaction?
