- Philippians 2:12-13 - Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
- Matthew 10:20 - For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.
Sometimes we all experience feelings of inadequacy. However, through the Holy Spirit, we have the power to overcome this. Here are three steps:
1. Accept your weakness Imagine your neighbor tells you that their sister is seriously ill. They are afraid and wondering what happens after death. You feel that God is calling you to share the hope you have in Christ. But a feeling of inadequacy holds you back. It is normal to feel this way. To obey God, you must first admit it: “Lord, I don’t feel capable. Help me to witness to my neighbor.”
2. Pray for strength Say: “Father, I know this is Your will. I trust that You will be faithful to Your Word. You have said that You will make me sufficient in Christ.” God takes it upon Himself to teach you what to say, how to say it, and in what spirit to do it.
3. Take a step of faith Take a concrete step that will lead you to the opportunity God has provided. When you do this, God demonstrates His power and what can be accomplished when you rely on Him.
Allow God to turn your inadequacy into victory. He delights in showing His power in the lives of His children. When you look not at your limitations, but at the total sufficiency of Jesus, you will find joy and confidence.
