- Isaiah 52:7 - How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!
- Romans 10:15 - And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
- Ephesians 6:13 - Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
- Ephesians 6:15 - And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
The Apostle Paul, while speaking of the armor of God, also mentions the soldier's footwear (Ephesians 6:13–18). The purpose of this armor is to help the believer stand firm. For what good is armor if one cannot stay on their feet?
Paul calls this footwear "the preparation of the gospel of peace" (Ephesians 6:15). Roman soldiers' sandals had metal studs on the bottom. This helped them stand firm on difficult terrain and during battles. Thus, the soldier could remain grounded, no matter what happened.
God wants His children to stand firm in the same way. When the storms of life come—and they will come—good intentions or positive thinking are not enough. We must have a solid foundation beneath our feet.
That foundation is Jesus Christ alone. When we build our lives upon Him and trust in the Gospel of peace He gives, we can stand firm even in the most difficult times.
Reflection
Consider what foundation keeps you standing during the storms of life: are you relying on your own strength, or on Jesus Christ?
