- Genesis 39:2 - The Lord was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.
- Genesis 39:9 - There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?
- Genesis 39:3-4 - And his master saw that the Lord was with him, and that the Lord made all that he did to prosper in his hand. And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.
- Genesis 39:21-22 - But the Lord was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison. And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph's hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatsoever they did there, he was the doer of it.
- Genesis 41:16 - And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.
“The Lord was with Joseph, and he was a successful man...” (Genesis 39:2). The Holy Scripture is relevant for every situation in our lives. Although our circumstances today may differ from those experienced by people in the Bible, the Word of God continues to guide us today. Let us look at Joseph's life again. When Potiphar's wife tried to tempt Joseph into sin, he refused, saying, “How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” (Genesis 39:9). Joseph's faith was strong, and this helped him remain faithful to God above all else. Secondly, God's presence caused Joseph to be blessed wherever he was. Whether as a slave or a prisoner, he gained responsibility and trust. The people around him saw that God was with him and entrusted him with great tasks (Genesis 39:3-4; 39:21-22). Thirdly, during times of suffering, Joseph learned valuable lessons for the future. He learned Egyptian culture, learned to take responsibility, and understood the importance of putting God above all else. Furthermore, he gained the opportunity to witness the power of God (Genesis 41:16). Like Joseph, our faith will be strengthened as we trust the Lord. When God takes His rightful place in our lives, His presence will give us the strength to withstand trials. In this way, we will be prepared to be used in God's work and to share His greatness with those around us.
Prayer: Lord, teach me to trust in You in every situation. Even in the midst of hardships, enable me to remain faithful to You, just like Joseph. Strengthen me against trials and use my life for Your glory. Amen.
