God's Faithfulness

Bible Readings
  • 1 Peter 2:12–17 - Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.
  • Lamentations 3:22–23 - It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Living a truly exemplary life is possible only when we build our foundation upon the Lord.

God's faithfulness is the firm foundation of the Christian life. Peter wrote his first letter to believers scattered across various regions of the Roman Empire. They lived in a society where they felt like strangers, were often misunderstood, and faced mistreatment. Despite this, Peter did not advise them to withdraw from society or repay evil with evil, but to live such an exemplary life that those who accused them would have nothing to say (1 Peter 2:12).

Such a life is only possible when we rely on a foundation stronger than our circumstances. Peter called believers to respect authority, love one another, and fear God, because he knew the God he served. God had been faithful to Israel throughout the centuries during times of exile, occupation, and uncertainty. He also showed His faithfulness by sending His Son, and He will remain faithful thereafter.

The Scriptures remind us that the Lord's love does not run out, His mercy does not end, and is renewed every morning (Lamentations 3:22–23). Peter's teachings are based on this very foundation. We do not honor God and others to earn His care; we do it because we are assured that His care is constant.

When the world seems unstable, we can rely on this truth: the God who preserved His people through all ages supports us today as well. His faithfulness gives us the basis to trust Him.

Truth for today: God's faithfulness is our firm foundation, helping us to live an exemplary life by trusting in Him.
