- Psalms 25:1-7 - Unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me. Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause. Shew me thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day. Remember, O Lord, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses; for they have been ever of old. Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness' sake, O Lord.
- Isaiah 55:8-9 - For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
When trials confuse our minds, God's Word and the Holy Spirit clarify the path. In a heavy snowstorm, everything familiar around us disappears because the snow obscures our vision. Difficulties in life have the same effect on our minds. Strong emotions cloud our thinking and make it hard to make the right decisions. In such times, let's look at three promises God gives us: 1. The Lord takes responsibility for guiding us. When we wait for Him, He gives understanding regarding our situation. Because He sees everything and knows what steps we need to take. But His guidance can sometimes surprise us, because His ways are not our ways. 2. God teaches us to apply the truth. As we meditate on God's Word, the Holy Spirit reveals wisdom suitable for our situation and shows us how to apply it. 3. The Lord leads and accompanies us. Just as a parent sometimes guides a child with a look without saying a word, the Holy Spirit guides our decisions and behavior by giving us internal signs. What difficult waters are you passing through right now? Know that these promises serve as a light to guide you in dark situations.
