- Psalms 46:10 - "Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth."
- John 14:27 - Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
- Philippians 4:7 - And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
"Be still, and know that I am God." (Psalm 46:10)
"I want to get out of here!" Life's difficulties and daily worries sometimes make all of us feel this way. As pressure mounts, one wants to escape everything and find relief.
But God shows us a better way. Instead of struggling with tense situations only in our own strength, we can learn to find comfort in the Lord. The psalmist expresses this: "Be still, and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10). Jesus also promises His followers the peace He gives amidst difficulties (John 14:27). As we entrust our worries to Him and meditate on the truths of Scripture, the Holy Spirit creates a comfort in our hearts that we cannot achieve by our own strength.
Above all, God wants us to know Him. As we trust in His complete sovereignty, accept that His plans are good, and grasp His unchanging love, our confidence grows. When this happens, instead of struggling in anxiety, we learn to find rest in His presence.
The more intimately we know our Heavenly Father, the more assuredness and inner peace we will encounter life's challenges with (Philippians 4:7). This peace does not depend on changing circumstances but is based on trusting God, who is sovereign over all things.
