The Power of Corporate Prayer

When we listen, fast, and pray together, we can see God working in ways we never expected. 2 Chronicles 20:1-30. When Jehoshaphat saw the impending danger, the first thing he did was turn to the Lord. He proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah, and the people gathered from every city to seek the Lord together. By calling for fasting and prayer, the king acknowledged that this crisis could only be solved by fully trusting in God. Even though Jehoshaphat was king, he realized his limitations and sought God's help. He could have relied on his position and his army, but instead, he called his people to pray together. Sometimes it is hard to ask others to pray for us. Yet, one of the wisest things we can do in difficult times is to come before the Lord with other believers. The Body of Christ is built on such mutual support. When the people of Judah gathered, God revealed His guidance through a prophet. Jehoshaphat was humble enough to listen and wise enough to obey (20:18-20). As a result, the Israelites won the victory without lifting a sword. Because the king obeyed the Word of God with faith, the whole nation saw the Lord's great victory (20:22-30). We, too, must keep our ears open to God's voice. He sometimes speaks through unexpected people and in unexpected ways. God will reveal His will and guidance in accordance with Holy Scripture. Our task is to listen to Him with faith and obey.
