- Psalms 139:1–4 - O Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether.
- Psalms 145:18 - The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.
A close relationship with God does not happen by accident. Like any meaningful relationship, intimacy with God requires intentionality.
* It requires honesty about our state. We cannot build a close relationship by acting as if everything is fine. God already knows our struggles, doubts, and failures. He wants us to come to Him not with a polished image, but as we truly are. Confessing sin is not telling God something He doesn't know; it is acknowledging the truth about our situation as He sees it. * It requires a readiness to trust His character. Our intimacy grows as we realize who God truly is. The more we know His faithfulness, goodness, and love, the more confidently we approach Him. Trusting does not mean we will never have questions. It means relying on the truths we know—on who God is. * It requires openness before Him. We must open our hearts to God—showing Him our fears, disappointments, and desires. Unlike some human relationships, being vulnerable and open here does not result in rejection. The Lord knows us completely and loves us in spite of it.
God created us for a close relationship with Him. He is always accessible and always with us. Even small steps toward Him—a sincere prayer, reading God's Word, spending quiet time in His presence—bring us closer to Him. He meets us where we are.
