- Exodus 3:6 - Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.
- Exodus 3:14 - And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
- Exodus 3:12 - And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.
- 2 Corinthians 3:5 - Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
The Lord will give you everything you need to do His will. How do you react when God asks you to do something that seems beyond your abilities? Do you hesitate, or do you start explaining to God why He shouldn't have chosen you? Moses reacted exactly like that. However, the conversation before the burning bush shows us two questions that can strengthen us when we feel helpless in the face of what God wants from us. Who is God? The Lord presented Himself as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and made Himself known by the name "I AM THAT I AM." God, who reigns over everything, does not depend on anyone for His existence, and is faithful to His promises, was not introducing Himself to Moses as if he were a stranger. He was reminding Moses whose voice he was hearing and what kind of God he was talking to. Who am I? When Moses asked if he was the right person for the job, God did not list Moses's abilities or strengths. Instead, He gave him something much more important: "I will be with you." The issue was not whether Moses was capable enough. The main point was God's presence with him. The same is true for us. Our ability to do God's will comes not from our own strength, but from Christ and the Holy Spirit who lives within us. Has God given you a task that seems difficult or even frightening? He knows your limitations better than you do, and He has already taken them into account. Therefore, instead of worrying, "Will I be able to do this?", turn your focus to the truth: "God is sufficient."
Reflection
When you fear fulfilling God's will, are you focusing more on your own limitations or on the presence and power of God?
